Profile
Anastasia Sechina
Editor, coordinator, and regional media expert
I have worked in journalism and media for more than 25 years. I edit texts, coordinate processes, and build professional support structures: programmes, pathways, tools, and systems for people working in normal media in abnormal times.
What I do
Building infrastructure for regional visibility
My main focus is journalism and media outside the capitals: how they work, what they lack, how they survive and grow, and how they search for their own language, contributors, funding, audiences, and the right to speak for themselves without being filtered through a metropolitan perspective.
I believe in decentralisation, the agency of local communities, and the importance of representing places through media in many different forms, from traditional newsrooms to independent creator-led projects.
Today, everything I do in media is rooted in a regional context.
What I do in practice
I work with regional media at multiple levels
I coordinate a regional partnership programme at a Russian-language publication.
I serve as a regional media expert for a journalism award.
I give talks, provide commentary, and advise on issues related to regional journalism.
Since 2017
Fourth Sector
I founded and continue to coordinate a project in which regional media are one of the key areas of focus. Fourth Sector brings together support infrastructure, educational initiatives, and research projects for independent journalists and media professionals working in abnormal times.
Toolbox
Curated collections of services, solutions, and practical tools for newsrooms and media projects.
On the Ground
An internship programme for writers and newsrooms working with regional stories.
Zakvaska
A space for letters, professional pathways, and practical feedback for people entering media or looking for their next step.
Ways to work together
The roles in which I can help
Editor
I help identify the core of a text, project, or idea and develop it into a finished piece.
Coordinator
I bring people, deadlines, partners, editorial tasks, and chaos together into a working process.
Expert
I help people understand how regional journalism works today.
Mentor
I work with writers, helping them see the path ahead, choose their next step, and find their bearings.
Programme Architect
I design programmes, tools, pathways, and support structures for writers and projects.
Experience
My perspective on the profession was shaped in Perm
I am from Perm, and much of my professional perspective grew out of that experience: my interest in places beyond the capitals, in the complexity of regional life, and in people who genuinely care about the places they call home.
I have worked in journalism since I was 17. In Perm’s regional media, I worked as a journalist, editor-in-chief, and programme director. I have also collaborated with independent media outlets and non-profit organisations as a writer, editor, and organiser.
For several years, I coordinated a city-wide civic festival. My work has received several journalism awards, including Redkollegia, Vmeste Media, and Vklyuchite Svet.
Today, I have a house on a hill, a husband, three children, a cat, and a dog. I love being on the road, discovering new cities, reading books, eating good food, and taking long walks. “And I am, quite simply, brilliant at walking.”
