I have worked in jour­nal­ism and media for more than 25 years. I edit texts, coor­di­nate process­es, and build pro­fes­sion­al sup­port struc­tures: pro­grammes, path­ways, tools, and sys­tems for peo­ple work­ing in nor­mal media in abnor­mal times.

What I do

Building infrastructure for regional visibility

My main focus is jour­nal­ism and media out­side the cap­i­tals: how they work, what they lack, how they sur­vive and grow, and how they search for their own lan­guage, con­trib­u­tors, fund­ing, audi­ences, and the right to speak for them­selves with­out being fil­tered through a met­ro­pol­i­tan per­spec­tive.

I believe in decen­tral­i­sa­tion, the agency of local com­mu­ni­ties, and the impor­tance of rep­re­sent­ing places through media in many dif­fer­ent forms, from tra­di­tion­al news­rooms to inde­pen­dent cre­ator-led projects.

Today, every­thing I do in media is root­ed in a region­al con­text.

I coor­di­nate a region­al part­ner­ship pro­gramme at a Russ­ian-lan­guage pub­li­ca­tion.

I serve as a region­al media expert for a jour­nal­ism award.

I give talks, pro­vide com­men­tary, and advise on issues relat­ed to region­al jour­nal­ism.

Since 2017

Fourth Sector

I found­ed and con­tin­ue to coor­di­nate a project in which region­al media are one of the key areas of focus. Fourth Sec­tor brings togeth­er sup­port infra­struc­ture, edu­ca­tion­al ini­tia­tives, and research projects for inde­pen­dent jour­nal­ists and media pro­fes­sion­als work­ing in abnor­mal times.

Expe­ri­ence

My perspective on the profession was shaped in Perm

I am from Perm, and much of my pro­fes­sion­al per­spec­tive grew out of that expe­ri­ence: my inter­est in places beyond the cap­i­tals, in the com­plex­i­ty of region­al life, and in peo­ple who gen­uine­ly care about the places they call home.

I have worked in jour­nal­ism since I was 17. In Perm’s region­al media, I worked as a jour­nal­ist, edi­tor-in-chief, and pro­gramme direc­tor. I have also col­lab­o­rat­ed with inde­pen­dent media out­lets and non-prof­it organ­i­sa­tions as a writer, edi­tor, and organ­is­er.

For sev­er­al years, I coor­di­nat­ed a city-wide civic fes­ti­val. My work has received sev­er­al jour­nal­ism awards, includ­ing Red­kol­le­gia, Vmeste Media, and Vklyu­chite Svet.

Today, I have a house on a hill, a hus­band, three chil­dren, a cat, and a dog. I love being on the road, dis­cov­er­ing new cities, read­ing books, eat­ing good food, and tak­ing long walks. “And I am, quite sim­ply, bril­liant at walk­ing.”
